Karen is a British artist who has been living and working around the
world for almost 14 years. Originally from a design background
Karen left the U.K in 1993 in search of both a
new home and in
order to develop and evolve her passions –
drawing and painting.
Initially she spent 10 months based in Natal, South Africa.
Shortly
after arriving in Thailand she headed south to the Island of Koh
Samui. It was here that she began her 5 years of fruitful
collaboration. The body of work that was created on Samui
was inspired by the coastline and in particular a
deep rooted
love of nature. The work centered on form and nature’s
arrangement and placement - extracting what she considered to be the soul and essence of these forms.
Her latest body of work shows a distinctive move forward
in both her medium and approach. The urban beauty she discovered
appeared in the many reflections she saw mirrored daily in adjacent
buildings. The shapes and colors that create subtle symbols and
the contrast of windows and architectural details all form the basis
of her most recent work.
Her aspirations have been an attempt to inspire a breath of fresh air
in the depths of this steamy and polluted metropolis, and more
importantly
to rediscover and reveal the radiant inner child at play.
